Southampton will next week celebrate the arrival of the largest ship to be based at the UK port, after P&O Cruises World Cruising formally took delivery of Brittania.
In a ceremony at Italy’s ship construction giant Fincantieri dock in Trieste, P&O hoisted its flag in place, with Captain Paul Brown presented with the water that first touched the hull in its floating out several months back.
Carnival UK executive chairman David Dingle joined senior management from both the line and Fincantieri at the ceremony.
Brittania has been designed especially for the British market, with amenities, entertainment & menus tailored for local clientele.
The ship will today leave the shipyard and be officially named on 10 Mar before embarking on its maiden voyage to the Mediterranean four days later.
