CARNIVAL Corporation Chairman Micky Arison has pledged a massive $1.5 million to a range of bushfire relief organisations in Australia.
The charitable donation will see $1.2 million given to UNICEF Australia to aid in getting children affected by the ongoing disaster back to school, with the remaining funds going towards an undisclosed wildlife project.
Carnival Australia President Sture Myrmell said the generous commitment, made via the Micky and Madeleine Arison Family Foundation, will be greatly appreciated by families preparing to send their kids back to school.
“There are hundreds of children who face the start of the school year in Australia having lost everything in this rolling natural disaster,” Myrmell said.
“With only a few weeks to go before school resumes, the immediate needs of these children will be very specific, including uniforms, textbooks…and electronic learning devices”.
Another cruise line making a sizeable commitment is Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, which today allocated $500,000 to a range of bushfire relief charities.
The funds will be split between several groups, including the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Appeal, The Salvation Army Emergency Services, State and Country Rural Fire Services, as well as animal welfare organisation WIRES.
“We are committed to supporting the outstanding work of the many emergency services personnel, community services staff, volunteer firefighters and animal welfare organisations,” the cruise line said in a statement.
