FOUR members of the cruise industry put their duties on hold last week to step up for a higher (school) cause.
The group was issued with personal protection equipment, and geared up to assist Sydney’s higher school certificate students with their first coronavirus vaccination and COVID-19 tests.
An initiative of NSW Health, the Qudos Bank Arena pop-up vaccination centre was established at Sydney Olympic Park to provide the services from 09 to 15 Aug, vaccinating more than 10,000 students over the week.
“On walking into the vaccination centre, I was immediately struck with the thought that the multiple booths within the big hall weren’t too dissimilar to a travel expo set up”, said Unique Cruises Director Walter Nand.
“Cruiseco’s Steve Dodds brought me back to reality when he pointed out that, unlike a travel expo, the dress code was being followed”.
TEG, which owns the Arena, said it was proud to support New South Wales in its vaccination program.
