NINE officers and shipping company workers
have been convicted by a Greek court on
charges of negligence involving the sinking of
Louis Hellenic Cruises’ Sea Diamond in 2007.
Suspended sentences ranging in length from
six months through to 12 years were handed
out, with four other defendants acquitted.
The vessel struck rocks off the coast of the
Greek island of Santorini in Apr of that year,
with 1,600 people on board, taking only a
couple of hours to sink, with all but two of the
passengers rescued.
