THE Scenic Group’s newly created MKM Yachts shipbuilding operation has been formally welcomed to the 3. Maj shipyard in Rijeka, Croatia.
An official signing ceremony earlier this month granted MKM, wholly owned by the Scenic Group, a “sub-concession” of the facility, where it will be the contractor for Scenic’s new-build projects in Croatia.
Current works include the construction of Scenic Eclipse II, with the company also recently confirming the construction of four more custom-built ultra luxury six-star Discovery Yachts through until 2026.
“This is a very exciting development for the Scenic Group to build on the experience gained with the construction of Scenic Eclipse,” said Scenic Chairman Glen Moroney.
He said MKM would utilise the team that delivered Eclipse in difficult circumstances, with plans “well advanced” for future projects which would be shared at the appropriate time.
The ceremony was attended by the Croatian Minister of Transport Infrastructure and Sea, Oleg Butkovic and MKM Yachts Managing Director Sasa Cokljat and 3. Maj General Manager Eddie Kucan (pictured).
MEANWHILE, Scenic has also confirmed Scenic Eclipse has been accepted as a member of the International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators (IAATO).
The company said as a member of the organisation its guests can be assured that Scenic’s operations will “meet and exceed industry standards”.
